2019 has been an outstanding year for 310 Running’s Aysia Maurice.
Thanks to her dominance across a myriad of mid-distance events, Maurice was named an ‘All-Ontarian’ & selected as the U16 Female Athlete of the Year by Athletics Ontario at their awards gala in October.
Aysia’s indoor season began with a bronze medal in the Freshman mile at the New Balance National Indoor Championships in New York. After that, she won three gold medals at the Athletics Ontario Indoor Championships, while helping to break a 30 year old provincial record in the sprint medley relay.
Outdoors, Maurice earned a gold & silver medal at OFSAA, two golds at Legion Provincials & a spot on Team Ontario, three golds at Athletics Ontario Outdoor Championships & a gold & silver at Legion Nationals. Along the way, she set three new Provincial records.
In the U18 women’s age group, 15 year old Maurice finished the year ranked first in Canada in the 1500 steeplechase & second in the 2000 & indoor mile.
Provincially, Aysia landed first in Ontario in the U16 women’s 1500 steeplechase, mile, 2000, 3000, indoor 800, 1500, mile & second in the 800, 1200, 1500 & indoor 1200.
310 Running’s Aysia Maurice capped off a spectacular 2019 outdoor track season with her first National title by winning the U16 girls 1500 steeplechase at the Legion National Championships in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
Aysia, competing for Team Ontario, broke her own Athletics Ontario U16 record with a winning time of 4:51.77.
One day earlier, Maurice took the silver medal in the U16 girls 2000 with a season best time of 6:29.31.
What is better than winning a medal at OFSAA? Winning two medals.
And what is better than one of your athletes winning two medals? Two of your athletes winning two medals each!
OFSAA 2019 was bountiful for 310 Running’s Aysia Maurice & Sierra Rodrigues as the girls combined for a total of 4 medals – 1 gold, 2 silvers & a bronze – in their first ever OFSAA Track & Field Meet.
Aysia, competing for Humberview, won silver in the Midget girls 1500 on Friday with a stellar time of 4:37.95 & then went on to take the gold in the Midget girls 3000 on Saturday in 10:20.55.
